Hi! I’m Dr. Wofford, the founder and owner of Sage MD. Thank you for spending a few moments of your time to explore our site. I hope this video provides you with a sense of whether we would be a good fit.

To start at the beginning, I was born in New Hampshire, and raised right here in Cary, North Carolina from the age of four. I definitely learned the value of community and teamwork during childhood. I was involved in extracurriculars such as dance and basketball, and participated in the performing arts later on in school. I had a wonderful extended family through my church, and continued community service projects throughout high school.

As I headed off to college at the University of Southern California, I really tried to examine those things that made me ‘tick’ and continually held my interest. As a kid, I never anticipated choosing a career as a physician, and I’m so thankful that the pieces all came together as I anchored my future in a passion for helping other people improve their lives.

Although I am a Wolfpack fan, I was very fortunate to attend UNC Chapel Hill for medical school. While there, I also went on to complete my master degree in public health. Afterward, I moved to Tucson, AZ, which became my home for the next several years while I completed my family medicine residency training at the University of Arizona.

I chose to specialize in Family Medicine because I wanted to be able to care for people across the entire life spectrum and develop relationships with families that could span multiple generations. Since residency, I have helped establish a primary care in Tucson, and worked in private practice here in Cary, NC. I have always cherished caring for my patients, but I grew exceedingly frustrated with the confines of insurance-based primary care, and I was ready for a change that allowed me to prioritize my patient’s interests and simplify getting care when and where patients need it.

I met my husband Joe while I was still in medical school – he was participating in an engineering co-op in RTP, and as they say, the rest is history. We currently live in Apex with our two daughters, and a beagle who would like to think he’s human. With our first child, I had the luxury to be home full-time for about one year, so I understand the stressors of being with a tiny human 24/7! I also understand the stressors of juggling the responsibilities of working while also being a mom.

In the past, I’ve been guilty of prioritizing my job responsibilities or the needs of my children over my own health, and I don’t want any parent to feel they have to delay their preventive care or forgo treatment for acute illness or chronic conditions. Members at Sage MD will have direct access to me so you don’t have to turn to social media groups, Dr. Google, or urgent care for medical advice. Members also receive same and next-day appointments and get to avoid the hassle of insurance middlemen telling us what we can and can’t do for your health.

My goal in opening Sage MD is to transform healthcare for mothers and their families by providing direct access to convenient, high-quality healthcare by a family doctor at an affordable, transparent price. I want to make it easy for you to prioritize your health.
